The ASC's books are available free of charge to K-16 educators in North Carolina. We will pay all shipping both directions. The books(s) will be delivered to your school by FedEx, and we will email you a return label for return shipping. To request a book or books, please email Stacey Sewall at sewall@email.unc.edu and include the following information:

  • your name and school
  • dates you will need the materials (please try to keep no longer than 4-6 weeks)
  • your school's mailing address
  • your school phone number
  • grade level that you teach
Many of the books in the ASC's library have won the Children's Africana Book Award (CABA) sponsored by the Outreach Council of the African Studies Association. You can limit your search criteria below to select only CABA award winning books if you wish. Most of the books for younger children/middle school in our collection are CABA award winners. Our high school and adult collection is made up of a variety of works in African literature. More information about the CABA award and related topics can be found at Africa Access Review. The CABA Award is given to books that present accurate, balanced information on Africa, and these books are highly recommended.
