Journeys of Reconciliation: The New South, the New South Africa, and Nelson Mandela

The Southeastern Regional Seminar in African Studies (SERSAS) and the SouthEast Africanist Network (SEAN) are pleased to announce a joint conference to be hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Friday evening and Saturday, February 6-7, 2015 at the Fedex Global Education Center on the UNC-Chapel Hill Campus.

Presentations

The theme for the conference will be "Journeys of Reconciliation: The New South, the New South Africa, and Nelson Mandela." The program includes a welcome reception and keynote address on Friday night, and a full program of papers on Saturday. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Hunt Davis, Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, who will be speaking on "John L. Dube and Nelson R. Mandela: Two Presidents and a 20th Century Journey from Accommodation to Reconciliation."

MEALS: The conference registration fee of $30 for faculty and $20 for students will be payable at the conference and will cover most food expenses. However, REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.    Conference Registration

ACCOMODATIONS: A limited number of rooms have been placed on hold for conference attendees at the Holiday Inn Express in Chapel Hill. SERSAS/SEAN will pay for a limited number of accommodations for attendees for Friday night only, but rooms must be reserved by the attendee with their own credit card. If you cannot attend the conference, you must cancel your room reservations in advance or your credit card will be charged. Attendees should make individual reservations by contacting the hotel directly. The hotel registration deadline for the group rate has been extended until January 30. Reserving by this deadline will be necessary for SERSAS/SEAN to cover the cost of your room. Please note that additional charges such as phone and meals will not be covered. Hotel costs for nights other than Friday, Feb. 6 are the responsibility of the conference attendee. Here are the hotel instructions:
